Map and geography
Central Asia is located in the middle of the Eurasian continent, between the Caspian Sea to the west, China to the east, Russia to the north, and Afghanistan and Iran to the south. The region is generally made up of five countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
The geography is unusually varied. Here you will find steppes, deserts, river valleys, green oases and some of the world's most impressive mountain ranges. For the traveler, this means great contrasts: from the magnificent monuments of Samarkand and the walled city center of Chiva to the alpine landscapes and sparkling mountain lakes of Kyrgyzstan.
